HUMAN TRAFFICKING IS THE ISSUE (OR TOPIC) I HAVE DECIDED TO INVESTIGATE

This picture was found here and it shows how awful human trafficking has become.

Human trafficking is becoming a bigger problem in some countries. Human trafficking is an criminal act which people are forced to serve an exploitative purpose, such as sexual slavery, forced labor, or child soldiery. About 2.5 million people are involved in this practice. One being affected is Somalia. The main humans being trafficked are children. Children will go to school or somewhere like normal and then just disappear. They are being trafficked from south-central Somalia because of the lack of government there. But with the help of IOM (International Office of Migration) Somalia is trying to raise awareness of the issue at hand. They are trying to get across that this is an international issue that can only be solved with others cooperation. This website tells you in great detail about the acts.
These people are prisoners in a sick persons jail.

Since 1990, over 80,000 women and children have been trafficked and sold into Thailand sex industry. Children were also found on construction sites and sweatshops. In 1996, 200,000 boys were thought to be trafficked to Thailand to work. Thailand is one of the biggest known country for receiving trafficked women from all over Europe and Asia. Females are usually 12 to 16 years old when abducted. Those abducted are unstable individuals that will pretty much believe anything. They think they are going to be getting a better life. The traffickers know what they are doing and know who to prey upon. It's scary to look at the numbers of people are are forced into human trafficking and we all should do whatever we can to stop it. I learned all about human trafficking in Thailand from here.
This shows where the humans go to after they are trafficked. None of them are a good choice.

Another place where human trafficking takes place is Cambodia. One 15 year old girl was selling bread to support her family. After making friends with a 35 year old woman who visited her daily, the woman told her that if she came with her and worked then all the money she made would go to her family. The woman told the girl to not tell her family what she was doing and she obeyed. The day that the girl was going to work, the woman drugged her and when the girl woke up she was in a taxi with three other girls and one by one the taxi driver raped them. Then the girl was forced to work in a restaurant and the woman promised the girl that all the wages were going to her family, but she lied. After a month the woman came back and switched to work in another restaurant. Then the finally switch the girl made was to a karaoke parlor. The girl finally had a lucky break. Her uncle visited the parlor once day and informed her parents. She was saved. I wish all stories ended like this, but most do not. This story can be found here.

The horror of human trafficking.

The truly chilling thing about human trafficking is that it can happen to anyone. You hear it happening in other countries, but it's happening in the United States too. Over 100,000 children from 9 to 19 - popular age is 11 - are trafficked in the United States. The 15 year old girl they call "Debbie" in this article was abducted from her DRIVEWAY in Phoenix. Her own driveway with her mother in the house. She was meeting a friend and then her friend pushed her the car and tied her up. The guys in the car told the friend if she didn't tie Debbie up then she would be shot. They took her to an apartment about 25 miles from her home, then was drugged and gang raped. Debbie was tried like a dog - being forced to eat dog biscuits and was even put in a dog kennel. The men then put her on Craig's List and was forced to have sex with over 50 men and that's not including the men who gang rape her on a regular basis. The men kept Debbie there for 40 days and told her that they were going to kill her family if she didn't cooperate. The thought in her mind was that 'she had to keep her family alive.' Police finally rescued Debbie and to try to gain back some of her innocence they moved the Midwest. This story goes to show human trafficking can happen to you.

This picture shows how terrified the victims of human trafficking really are.

Another thing about human trafficking is that it is very hard to stop. These people are nasty snakes and know how to cover their tracks and know how to hide from police. When victims of the trafficking are lucky enough to be released, they are terrified to talk to police. One, they cannot trust them. Two, they don't want their trafficker to find out and enslave them once again. According to the New York Times, this happened in Long Island. Long Island is one of the 21 regions identified that is affected by the horror of human trafficking. It is the perfect place for human trafficking because of all the incoming immigrants. An Anti-Human Trafficking Force has been going on for a year and nothing has shown up except one victim. She was forced to work at a Wantagh brothel that was disguised as a massage parlor. This shows how a common place could secretly be a living hell.

IVE LEARNED THAT LEADERS IN MANY NATIONS OF THE WORLD FACE COMPLEX PROBLEMS THAT THEY FEEL CANT BE SOLVED WITHOUT INTERNATIONAL ACTION OR COOPERATION

These are Kenyan refugees.

With all the lovely country projects we did during the school year, I have learned a lot about the world I live in. The country I did my project on was Kenya. Kenya has conflict, but the main one is refugees. The camps are overflowing because of Evan's country (Somalia). They stopped providing food to some programs so they have come over to Kenya to join their refugee camps. Kenya needs help with food and material supplies. They are helping out so many so the world needs to give back and help them out. Many countries we heard about are having drug problems like Greece, Jamaica, and Brazil. Turkey is having a rising unemployment rate. The problems there can be solved with some outside help, such as the import and export of drugs and more jobs can be made by bringing other businesses and shops to Turkey like car dealerships and that would make more jobs avaliable. These problems cannot be solved without help from others.

This is what we need to do. Help others.

I UNDERSTAND HOW OUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE PAST IS CONSTRUCTED THROUGH ANALYSIS OF PRIMARY SOURCES OF MANY KINDS

As a class, we discussed the definition of a primary source as something created during the time of the event. The examples we used in our projects were letters, diary entries, speeches, posters, propaganda, relics or artifacts, government reports, official documents, news accounts, and poems or songs. The primary sources give us an inside look of what really happened during the events, such as peoples emotions and actions. Having primary sources are important to history because without them we would just have to guess what really happened or what people were feeling. With them people can now have a more accurate inference of what happened. In class, we made different kinds of primary sources to understand the significance of them.

ARTWORK

This is artwork of the different world leaders are stabbing a picture of China and the Chinese ruler is trying to stop the madness. It shows us no one was really liking the way China was going about things. Knowledgerush is a good source because it has good and accurate background information of the New Imperialism. I know it is accurate because it also has it in our world history book:)

This is advertisement from the period of the New Imperialism. This shows the more cultured everyone was from the New Imperialism and the different kind of events. This source is credible because it is all about vintage ads and it has many ads from the period of the New Imperialism.

PHOTO

This is a picture of the first day, first event of the first Olympic Games in 1896. This took place in the New Imperialism. This shows us that people were trying to work for peace during the New Imperialism. This photo is on a website that I believe is very creible. It has many old photos and explains them well and they are cited.

ARTIFACT

This is an artifact from the New Imperialism. It is called the Gatling Gun. It had high volume of fire, but someone had to reload it every time, so it was not the first true machine gun. This tells us through the New Imperialism weapons started to advance. The source I used tells you the history of the machine gun and the Gatling Gun.

I HAVE BECOME MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE WORLD

This some of the Somali refugees.

I have become more knowledgeable about the world through current events. I have learned about the problems that happened in Kenya (the country I researched for my project), but I have also learned about what is happening in other countries around the world from my fellow classmates. The problem in Kenya is that there are so many refugees coming in from Somalia that the refugee camps are way too full and the government isn't helping them out. They will not give the camps more land or more food and supplies. I also have learned that many countries are having a drug problems. Countries like Greece, Jamaica, and Brazil. Those were researched by Charlene, Maria, and Aly. The current issue that is also going on is the LRA problem in Uganda. The LRA is trying to catch Kony, but to do it they is using his former victims. I feel like in the loop because I know about all these events. It makes my realize how many people really need our help. I even tell my mom about the current events that she has no idea about. It makes me feel smarter:)

American Soldiers during World War I

I have also become more knowledgeable about the world through learning about the twentieth century. During the twentieth century World War I took place. The Great World War started with the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand on June 28, 1914. It was a war between the Allies and the Central Powers. The Allies were Russia, France, and Britain. The Central Powers were Germany and Austria - Hungary. The neutral power was Italy. The Allies were successful and they defeated the Central Powers. The New Imperialism also took place during the twentieth century. England, Japan and the United States went to westernize places such as Africa. The affects of the New Imperialism are still noticed today, such as the Social Darwinism.

Let's stop racism today.

Racism is a problem today in our world and it was a bigger problem back in the day. But it really isn't a big deal. I really realized that when we took the Racism quiz and the African American people did not look African American and the Latinos didn't look Latino. You can be 1/786475945 African American and still considered African American. People should not judge on appearance because they don't know the cold, hard facts.

The beautiful Mount Kenya.

As a class we have learned about so many places around the world, especially when we did those lovely country projects. The country I really focused on was Kenya. I researched the history of Kenya and I didn't realize how interesting it could be to research a country. I was actually getting pretty into it. Like who knew that there was a Mau Mau movement where Kikuyu militants started a rebellion against the government that lasted four years. I also didn't realize how may people lived in Kenya. It's over 39 MILLION! That just seems like a ton of people, but I guess that's just me. Kenya also has a lot of geographical features that are absolutely BEAUTIFUL like Mount Kenya and some places just look so cool like that Great Rift Valley. Now I might not complain as much when researching countries because now I realized that everywhere has something to offer.

Traditional Japanese bride and groom.

We have talked about many cultures this second semester. One culture we really focused on was Japan. Everyone did a project on Japan so we learned bunches about it. Like I focused my project on the culture of Japanese weddings. The traditional wedding is really expensive and very strict in the rules, but now many people are changing to western weddings. The traditional Japanese weddings is kind of fading out, but they are still performed. Others did there projects on many different things like clothing, cars, religion, and architecture. It's always interesting learning about a new culture and comparing it to the United States.

REFLECTION

http://http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/11/world/africa/11lra.html

I think everything was out of control to begin with. No children should have been abducted and you can't blame them for getting abducted. But I think the people who were abducted should help find him because they know his ways better than everyone else. I would be so scared if this was me for many reasons: for being abducted and having to try to find him because you don't know what he will do.

Revising my Japan Project Proposal

On second thought, I am going to make like a Wedding Planning book about Japanese weddings. It will kind of be like a scrapbook thing. I talked to you about it. You said it was good haha. I will like create a Japanese wedding in the scrapbook and tell about the history of Japanese weddings.

Japan Project Proposal

For my Japan project I am going to do a childrens book. My childrens book is going to be Japanese women. I am going to sell this book to little Japanese girls to help them realize what there mothers have to go through and what they will eventually have to go through.

My interest in this came about throught the Afghanistan project. I saw what those women had to go through and it made me think about what the other women in the world have to go through.
