NATIONALISM: FROM CONCERT TO COMPETITION

RECAP
In chapter ten we learned all about Nationalism. Nationalism is a strong feeling in and devotion to one's country. In the early 1800s Nationalism started to rise in Germany which we learned about, but it originally started in France. Nationalism was a huge part of Europe. Revolts started to come about when the king would tell the people they had no voice. The people had no say in the government. The people who were for Nationalism wanted everything to be equal. They had so much pride in their country they really cared about what was going on and this, my friend, was the beginning of NATIONALISM.

REVIEW
For the puppet show, my group discussed how Italy became unified. We explained in detail how certain people were really involved in unifying Italy. We dicussed the negatives and positives of the people and the expierence. I thought we did a good idea about getting the different character roles everyone had. We had good - and cute, I might add - puppets that were very accurate I thought. We had an immigrant with beat up clothes and a United States flag and we had how King Victor Emmanel II came to be. We also had the pope and Mazzani the nationalist that was well explained.

The easiest thing to relate the unification of Italy to is simply the unification of Germany. Italy was smarter and so much simplier. Bismark went through a lot of trouble by making people think that they were getting so much benefit from the unification. The stupid nationalist just ate it all up and believed it all. People saw how smart Bismark was and started doing the same thing. Stupid nationalist.

REFLECT & RE-INVENT

I think nationalism is good for some people, but I personally think nationalists are stupid. They have so much pride in their country they don't even notice what is in front of their face. They got played so bad. They all did. It can be more useful to global societies though because it will give them something to be proud of and it will make them work harder to maintain that and only make it better. It will be kind of like athletes. One is so good and it makes another push harder and wanting to be better than them. It could be good. I could see it.
