I have become more knowledgeable about the world through current events. I have learned about the problems that happened in Kenya (the country I researched for my project), but I have also learned about what is happening in other countries around the world from my fellow classmates. The problem in Kenya is that there are so many refugees coming in from Somalia that the refugee camps are way too full and the government isn't helping them out. They will not give the camps more land or more food and supplies. I also have learned that many countries are having a drug problems. Countries like Greece, Jamaica, and Brazil. Those were researched by Charlene, Maria, and Aly. The current issue that is also going on is the LRA problem in Uganda. The LRA is trying to catch Kony, but to do it they is using his former victims. I feel like in the loop because I know about all these events. It makes my realize how many people really need our help. I even tell my mom about the current events that she has no idea about. It makes me feel smarter:)
American Soldiers during World War I

Let's stop racism today.
Racism is a problem today in our world and it was a bigger problem back in the day. But it really isn't a big deal. I really realized that when we took the Racism quiz and the African American people did not look African American and the Latinos didn't look Latino. You can be 1/786475945 African American and still considered African American. People should not judge on appearance because they don't know the cold, hard facts.

The beautiful Mount Kenya.
As a class we have learned about so many places around the world, especially when we did those lovely country projects. The country I really focused on was Kenya. I researched the history of Kenya and I didn't realize how interesting it could be to research a country. I was actually getting pretty into it. Like who knew that there was a Mau Mau movement where Kikuyu militants started a rebellion against the government that lasted four years. I also didn't realize how may people lived in Kenya. It's over 39 MILLION! That just seems like a ton of people, but I guess that's just me. Kenya also has a lot of geographical features that are absolutely BEAUTIFUL like Mount Kenya and some places just look so cool like that Great Rift Valley. Now I might not complain as much when researching countries because now I realized that everywhere has something to offer.

Traditional Japanese bride and groom.
We have talked about many cultures this second semester. One culture we really focused on was Japan. Everyone did a project on Japan so we learned bunches about it. Like I focused my project on the culture of Japanese weddings. The traditional wedding is really expensive and very strict in the rules, but now many people are changing to western weddings. The traditional Japanese weddings is kind of fading out, but they are still performed. Others did there projects on many different things like clothing, cars, religion, and architecture. It's always interesting learning about a new culture and comparing it to the United States.
this is precious!!
